H.L.R Gold

HLR Gold was, as the name suggests, an oldies service which operated during mid to late 1989. The broadcasts were from the pavilion transmitter via studios in Bengeo and Welwyn Garden City.

Programming featured the stations very own Grandad of the airways Nigel James with other shows hosted by Tony Simpson and Rusky on the Radio.

With the all 60's & 70's music format the service proved to be very popular, almost reminiscent of the days made memorable by the offshore pirate stations such as Radio Caroline, Swinging Radio England and RNI.

The broadcasts ended with the raid on the pavilion in September 1989 and was never resumed as a stand-alone service again.
